Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Questions

What is LocalSplit?

LocalSplit is an app designed to separate vocals from background music in audio and video files. It allows you to extract vocal and instrumental tracks from your media files directly on your device.

Can the app work offline?

Yes, LocalSplit works 100% offline. All processing is done within your device, so no internet connection is required once the app is installed.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Since LocalSplit processes everything locally on your device, your audio and video files are never uploaded to any server. Your media stays private and secure on your device.

Supported Formats

What file formats can I use with LocalSplit?

We support the most common audio and video formats. However, even if the file format is in the list, the compatibility also depends on the encoding of the audio and video in the file.

For audio files:

Format iOS Android
MP3
WAV
M4A
AAC
OGG
FLAC

For video files:

Format iOS Android
MP4
MOV
M4V
MKV
WEBM
AVI

What are file formats that I could export?

Format iOS Android
WAV

Processing & Performance

Why shouldn’t I turn off the screen or switch to other apps during the splitting process?

LocalSplit requires significant computational resources to separate audio tracks. When you switch to another app or turn off your screen, your device may allocate fewer resources to LocalSplit, which can interrupt the process or cause it to fail. For best results, keep the app open and your screen on until processing is complete.

Why is the app not very responsive when splitting vocals and background?

The audio separation process is computationally intensive and requires a significant amount of your device’s processing power. This can cause the user interface to become less responsive during processing. This is normal and not a sign of a problem with the app.

How long does it take to process a video or audio file?

Processing time depends on two main factors: the length of your audio/video file and your device’s processing capabilities. A typical 3-minute song will take around 50 seconds on most modern devices and up to 2 minutes on older devices.

Does the app work better on certain devices?

LocalSplit works on most modern iOS and Android devices, but will perform faster on devices with more powerful processors. Devices released in the last 2-3 years will generally provide the best experience.

Projects & Files

How do I start a new project with the same video?

LocalSplit identifies projects based on the filenames of your media. To create a new project using the same video, simply rename the video file before importing it into the app.

Where are my separated tracks saved?

On iOS, you can choose where to save the separated tracks.

On Android, exproted audio and video files are saved to Music/LocalSplit and Movies/LocalSplit respectively.

Why is the vocal separation not perfect?

Audio separation technology, while advanced, isn’t perfect. Results vary depending on:

  • The complexity of the original mix
  • The presence of effects on the vocal track
  • The quality of the original recording (ideally, sample rate should be 44.1 kHz or higher)

Technical Information

What technology does LocalSplit use to separate vocals?

LocalSplit uses advanced machine learning algorithms optimized to run on mobile devices. The separation process uses spectral analysis and neural network models to identify and isolate vocal and instrumental components.

Does the app require any special permissions?

LocalSplit requires permission to access your device’s storage to read media files and save the separated tracks. No other special permissions are needed for the core functionality.
